Saigon Tourism- 5 pagodas in Sai Gon should be visited

Everyone knows Ho Chi Minh City is an urban prosperous place with entertainment activities, but few people know that this area has many large temples with magnificent scenery and unique architectures which are well worth taking time to visit and learn.

Vinh Nghiem Pagoda

Vinh Nghiem Pagoda is a large temple located on Nam Ky Khoi Nghia road. This was one of centers spreading Buddhist religion of Truc Lam Zen.


This temple was built in the reign of King Ly Thai To, so its architecture bears the pure Asian style. It was mainly restored in 1964, under the design and material contribution of engineers and monks coming from North Vietnam.

When completed, it consists of three-door temple gate, the pagoda, the bell, the system of secondary house, a 7 floor tower and a large campus. The main temple is designed with large Buddha statues and many horizontal and parallel sentences written in kanji.

Currently, Vinh Nghiem Pagoda is not only a place of worship for Buddhists but also one of the sights for tourists at home and abroad.

Giac Lam Pagoda

Giac Lam Pagoda located on Lac Long Quan road is considered one of the oldest temples in Saigon. This pagoda was built in 1744 by the abbot, Venerable Vien Quang. Three-shaped temple bears the Southern style culture from architecture to layout. A blend of southern Vietnam, Indian, Khmer and western cultures is a unique feature in this temple. The scenery is very beautiful with gardens and old trees.


It has 113 copper Buddha statues and precious wood placed about 200 years ago. Most especially, this place also worships Ksitigarbha Buddha– a statue with high aesthetic and sculptural values.

Xa Loi Pagoda

Xa Loi Pagoda is located on Ba Huyen Thanh Quan road. It was started in 1956 and completed in 1958 with a new architectural style including the main pagoda worshiping Buddha, the lecture hall, the bell tower, the library, the hall, the living room, and more. The temple worship a Sakyamuni statue with its body painted golden and Buddha relics, a precious treasure.


Xa loi bell tower is a unique architecture. The Vietnam's largest bell tower consists of 7 floors and is 32 meters in height. On the top floor there is a bell weighing 2 tons and cast bronze in the form of Thien Mu Pagoda.

Nam Thien Nhat Tru - The Southern One Pillar Pagoda

Nam Thien Nhat Tru is located on Dang Van Bi road. It was built by Thich Tri Dung monk in 1958 and is considered The Southern One Pillar Pagoda. In this place, visitors will have an opportunity to visit, admire the beauty of the temple and forget their. When being built, the temple was made in the mold of One Pillar Pagoda in Hanoi. It is located among Long Nhan Lake. There are lotus flowers bringing purity and peace.


Hoang Phap Temple

The temple is located in Tan Hiep Commune, Hoc Mon district and built by Venerable Ngo Chan Tu in 1957. It foundations, momentum, columns, ceilings, and granite tiles were imported from Spain but it still has many ancient features like the northern temples.
