Because of being an island, the transportation to and in Cat Ba is more complicated than other destinations. You can choose a ferry or speedboat to move from the mainland to the island. In recent years, high-speed vessels are often chosen as a mean to the island because it's more convenient and faster,though the cost may be slightly higher (about 180 thousand VND/adult, excluding VAT). In addition, you can also choose a different direction of travel that is away from Tuan Chau Tuan Chau ferry over - Gia Luan with operating frequency is about 45min/ trip. If you are from Hanoi to Cat Ba, you can ride to Hoang long bus which also takes place with the adult fare only 240 thousand VND / person.
As to the island, the vehicles could be chosen more convenient and easier. You can rent a bicycle or motorbike to easily walk around the place near the town.
